Mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit is an enzyme immunoassays (microtiter strips) for the qualitative and quantitative determination of IgG antibodies against Mumps Virus in human serum and plasma. Mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit is a solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based on the sandwich principle. The wells of this mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit are coated with antigen. Specific antibodies of the sample binding to the antigen coated wells are detected by a secondary enzyme conjugated antibody (E-Ab) specific for human IgG. After the substrate reaction the intensity of the color developed is proportional to the amount of IgG-specific antibodies detected. Results of samples can be determined directly using the standard curve.

The Mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit is shipped at ambient temperature and should be stored at 2-8°C. Keep away from heat or direct sunlight. The storage and stability of specimen and prepared reagents is stated in the protocol insert. The microtiter strips of this Mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit are stable up to the expiry date of the kit in the broken, but tightly closed bag when stored at 2–8°C. The test results using this Mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit are only valid if the test has been performed following the instructions. Moreover the user must strictly adhere to the rules of GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) or other applicable standards/laws. All standards used with this Mumps Virus IgG ELISA kit must be found within the acceptable ranges as stated on the QC Certificate. If the criteria are not met, the run is not valid and should be repeated. Each laboratory should use known samples as further controls. In case of any deviation the following technical issues should be proven: Expiration dates of (prepared) reagents, storage conditions, pipettes, devices, incubation conditions and washing methods. It is recommended to participate at appropriate quality assessment trials.

Mumps (Parotitis) is a common contagious disease with relatively moderate symptoms during childhood, but increasing complications, when adults are infected. The causative agent of mumps is a virus of the Paramyxoviridae family. Both a mumps infection or vaccination lead to a persistent immunity. The typical symptom associated with a mumps infection is a „parotitis“ (swelling of the parotid glands) and possible additional involvement of the CNS and various glandular organs (pancreas, thymus, thyroids). A mumps induced meningitis is one of the most frequent manifestations of the disease which can also appear without parotitis. The published data about the presence of meningitis vary between 1.4% and 66% of the clinically ill patients. In most cases there follows reconvalescence without complications. The recognition of Mumps in the laboratory is mostly done by detection of the infectious agent itself or by the determination of virus-specific antibodies. The serodiagnosis plays a major part. Besides the classical methods like complement fixation, hemagglutination and neutralisation tests have been introduced a series of modern assays like immunofluorescence, radio immunoassay and enzyme immunoassay. The immunity of an individual is monitored by an IgG ELISA. Increasing IgG titers are helpful in the determination of the causative agent beause cross reactions with Parainfluenza-Virus type 2 may lead to a wrong interpretation of the patient reports. In the early stage of the disease, significant IgM titers may be monitored.
