Human Apolipoprotein A1 (APOA-1)


  • Is involved in the promotion of cholesterol efflux where it is excreted in the liver. Apolipoprotein-A-1 gene is found to be located on chromosome 11.
  • Has a vital function during lipid metabolism and in human plasma forms a part of the HDL.
  • Gene defects can be  associated to deficiency in HDL which can lead to either amyloidosis or Tangier disease.
  • Elevated levels can cause atopy and asthma.
